Windmill from the village of PopasnoeShort description
The windmill from the village of Popasnoe (Kalacheevsky district, Voronezh region) is located on a historical site. The time of construction is unknown. Smock mill with four sails and unknown number of millstones. Log construction. Was used as a flour mill (flour).
|Condition||The windmill is falling into ruin and may disappear|
|Status||In noone's possession, not used|
|Mechanism||Not restored, is going to ruin|
The following historical parts of the mechanism have been preserved:
Windshaft, Brake wheel, Stonecrane, Upright shaft, Wallower, Great spur wheel.
The mill has preserved the vertical/upright shaft. And it’s the only mill like this among the abandoned mills of Voronezh region. It also has preserved a mysterious wheel near the roof. The same wheel can be found in the mill in Lomi. The purpose of these wheels is not obvious, but it is possible that they put the rope, which moves the beam, through them, i.e. the brake unit, which in turn pressed the brake to the brake wheel. Thanks to the sheave, it was possible to raise and lower the beam from the lower floors. This is a guess only, though.
Vertical sticks are seen inside and outside the log construction. These are the attempts to strengthen the construction.
