Arriving in Old Mazikovo, we were surprised to see no mill there. We know that an abandoned mill in a village can collapse or burn at any moment, but all the information said that the mill had to be there. Though it wasn’t. Having searched through the entire village, here and there, we attracted attention of a local man who was obviously also surprised to see us.
- What are you doing here?
- We are looking for a mill!
- Well, the mill was mine, and I sold it.
- ???
It turned out that the mill was actually sold, but it was transported quite close to the village of Shorunzha, which is in the same district, 20 kilometers away. But the most interesting thing is that in Shorunzha it was functionally restored and now it is one of the six historical operating mills. During restoration, however, many things, for example the sails, were done not quite correctly from the historical point of view.

Anyone can look at the mill, as well as do a lot of other interesting things in the ethnocultural Mari El Center "Shorunzha". We did not find the site of the center, therefore we suggest searching for information here.

The report from year of 2007 about the mill before it was transported, can be found here.
